How Quick We Forget | Poet Nathan Antoine

Like a smooth rhythm
And a constant rhyme
Time
Stand still for no man

Yet, we abuse it
And
Use it

Like we’re living in our own candy land
Like the we’ve got the whole wide world
In our individual hands

Cupped
But really boxed
With a lock
That looks a lot like Pandora’s box

And we all feel it in our pits
Still
How quickly we forget…

How quickly we forget

The mother that mothered us
The father that fathered us

Or just the parents that worked
And made away
For us

How quickly we forget

The sun that inspires us
The moon that engages us
The earth that nurtures us

Even when we are no good to her

How quickly we forget

The friend that use to sing that song
Lean on me
When you’re not strong
And they actually followed through
When you needed them

They helped you carry on

How quickly we forget

The love that loved us
Even when we did not love ourselves

Except through filters and lies

How quickly we forget

The test that tested us
And made us learn
Very particular life lessons

That we’ll never forget

Yet
How quickly we forget…
